Anita Groce, 66, Minot, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Anita Carol was born October 29, 1957, to Herman and Alma (Knorr) Marten in Minot, North Dakota. She was raised in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1975 and traveled to Germany with the German Club. At age 19, Anita married her first husband, and they moved to Havre, Montana. They welcomed their first daughter in 1980. Soon after they moved to Bowman, North Dakota where their second daughter was born in 1982. She spent many years working as a CNA and later was employed for 19 years at Chriocare as the office manager. Anita retired in 2023 from CHI St. Alexius in Minot.
In 1990 she met Gary Groce, and they were married in 1991 at a small ceremony with Anita’s two daughters, Tina and Lori, as well as Gary’s sons, Jeremy and Jason. Anita was an amazing example of what a mom should be. She taught her daughters that working hard is a part of life, that nothing is handed to you, and if you want something you work for it. She worked two jobs to support her daughters and did all she could to ensure they had what they needed. She always made their birthday cakes and decorated them however her girls wanted. This is just one of the very special memories her girls carry with them and continue to pass on to their children. Anita enjoyed gardening, canning and baking through the summer and fall. Come winter she loved to travel to the beach with her husband and friends; Mexico was a favorite destination.
She is survived by her husband: Gary; daughters: Tina (Brock) Stratton and Lori (Shawn) Woiwode; stepsons: Jeremy (Christine) Groce and Jason Groce; grandchildren: Rachel, Leah, Rose, Danika, Dillon, and Zarek; and brother, Craig (LaDonna) Marten.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of Anita’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Minot Moose Lodge.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
