Yvonne Peterson, 89, Minot and formerly of Maxbass, died on Thursday, September 26, 2024 in a Minot assisted living center.

Yvonne Ellene Piquette was born on June 7, 1935 in Maxbass, ND to Ernest and Mabel (Tyler) Piquette. She was raised and educated in Maxbass until the family moved to Minot in 1951. She graduated from Minot Model School in 1953. As a young adult she was employed at First National Bank at various times for a total of sixteen years.

Yvonne was once married to James Peterson for 32 years.  They made their home in Minot and were the parents of Michelle, James, Roy and DeAnn. Yvonne was employed as a teller at Norwest Bank and First Western Bank prior to moving to Mesa, AZ in 1992 where she was employed at First International Bank as a teller for thirteen years. She moved to Coon Rapids, MN for three years before returning to Minot in 2008 where she was employed at Herberger’s. Most recently, she had resided at Edgewood Vista Memory Care Unit.

Yvonne was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church -Minot and was an active member of the Republican Party. She especially enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing and spending time at their lake home on Rice Lake.

Yvonne was “Super Grandma”, always ready with a hug, a story, and endless energy for games, crafts, or whatever adventure her grandkids dreamed up.

Her weekly trips to the Minot Public Library were legendary—she had a book in her hand, a smile on her face, and likely another book tucked under her arm, ready for her next literary adventure. And if she wasn’t borrowing books, she was swapping them with her dear friend, Judy Flom. Romance novels were her go-to, and she always had one nearby, escaping into worlds of love, laughter, and the occasional swoon-worthy hero.

Mom’s love language was food, and if you were lucky enough to be invited for dinner, you knew to wear stretchy pants. Seconds weren’t a suggestion—they were mandatory. Her cooking and baking could rival the best, and her sweet tooth meant you were guaranteed dessert—usually more than one. Every bite was a reminder of how much she cared, and baking was her way of pouring love into everything she served.

Her kindness extended beyond her two-legged loved ones. Yvonne’s dogs held a special place in her heart, and they were treated like royalty. Whether it was an extra treat or a comfy spot on her couch, she made sure her four-legged best friends were just as cared for as everyone else. Serving others—whether family, friends, or pets—was at the core of who she was, and she did it with a full heart and a warm smile.

She also loved spending time at the family cabin on Rice Lake, even though she wasn’t particularly fond of water. You wouldn’t catch her floating on an air mattress, but you could always find her in the kitchen, preparing endless meals, snacks, and treats. The lake was a magical place for her four kids, filled with memories she helped create because she loved us *big-time*. She knew how much we loved it there, and nothing made her happier than putting those endless smiles on our faces.

And when she wasn’t reading or in the kitchen, she was on the hunt—garage sales were her treasure hunts. She had a sixth sense for spotting a sale from miles away, and her car knew better than to pass by without stopping. Over the years, she found more treasures than anyone could count, but her greatest joy was in the simple pleasure of the hunt itself.

Yvonne’s loving family includes her children: Michelle (Gary) Myers of Chandler AZ, James (Tammy) Peterson of Rapid City SD, Roy (Mary) Peterson of Coon Rapids MN and DeAnn Peterson of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren: Chace (Carly) Peterson, Ciara Peterson, Kristin Myers, Nicole Peterson and Amber Heidt; great grandchildren: Callaway James Peterson, Dylan and Brayson Heidt, Axtyn Voeller, Hadley Smith and Avah Eisinger; sister: Darla Kuntz of Mesa AZ; sisters-in-law: Cathy Piquette, Geraldine Peterson, Judy Klovstad and LaDonna Stonerook and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
