Donald “Pete” Peterson

Donald “Pete” Peterson, 90, Carpio, died Sunday, August 25, 2024, in a Minot hospital.

Donald Dale Peterson was born September 17, 1933 in Minot, ND the son of Alfred and Julia (Erickson) Peterson. He was raised on the family farmstead north of Carpio and graduated from Carpio High School in 1951.

Pete entered active-duty service with the U.S. Army in 1955.  He honorably served his country while stationed in England and Germany until receiving his honorable discharge in 1957. He returned to the farm near Carpio and was united in marriage to Joyce Ayers in 1958. They made their home on a farm in Plain Township of Renville County, where they were blessed with four children.  

Throughout the years, they grew small grains and dairy cattle. In 1998, he turned over the operation of the farm and dairy cattle to Dale and Vickie. He continued to assist with the farm after retiring.

Pete was a longtime member of Carpio Lutheran Church, and active in the community serving on the Plains Township Board, Carpio School Board and Farmers Union Carpio Board of Directors. He was also a member of Farmers Union and NW Polkateers. He especially enjoyed metal working and restoring tractors. 

His loving family includes, wife of 66 years, Joyce; children, Julie (Randy) Brickley, Hubbard, OR, Dale (Vickie), Carpio, Dean (Sue), Littleton, CO and Douglas (Lucy), Blaine, MN; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; siblings, Darrel (Marlis), Carpio and David (Diane), Bismarck, ND; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Holter and her husband, Glen; niece, Carla.

Celebration of Life Service: Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. in Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio.
Visitation: Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas family Funeral Home, Minot and one hour prior to the service Saturday in the church.
Interment: Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery, rural Carpio.
