Ramona ¨Mona¨ Yvonne (Steinwand) Reinisch of Garrison, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, at the age of 86.
Mona was born in Garrison, North Dakota, on September 25, 1937, to Jacob and Regina (Weber) Steinwand. She worked at Elsie’s Restaurant, where she met her husband and love, Henry ¨Hank´ Reinisch. On October 14, 1954, they were married at St. Paul Lutheran church; they were married for 59 years.
Mona worked at the Garrison Memorial Hospital for over 30 years as a nursing assistant and in Central Supply. She loved sharing jokes she learned from coworkers and patients, and there are some we will never forget.
Mona was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the local TOPPS chapter, a volunteer for Friends of the Library, and an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and playing cards with her friends. She was always up for a game of Gin Rummy or Uno.
Her laugh was contagious, and her heart had room for everyone. With effortless hospitality, she made any visitor feel at home with a cup of coffee and a bottomless wealth of stories. She shared her love through baking, and if you ever left her home hungry, that was your own fault. Affable with the sass to match, her sense of humor could brighten any room. Memories of your time with Mona always come with a smile. So naturally funny and unquestionably kind.
Mona’s sense of humor and determination kept her strong even when she was physically weak. If you heard laughter in the halls of the hospital, you knew what room was hers. Mona made us laugh, fed us well, and never complained. She looked forward to her life with Jesus, and a life free from pain. Her faith kept her strong, and she knew she was going ¨home.¨
Mona is survived by her children: Mike (Kim) of Apple Valley, MN, Mark (Shelly) of Rosemount, MN, David (Deb) of Fridley, MN, and Jayme (Lisa) of Apple Valley, MN, her grandchildren: Meagan (Mike) Reissy, Andy, Joey (Kim), Chelsea, Julia, Elena, Will (Chanen Hanson), Lindsey (Jamie), and Matthew (Stephanie), her great grandchildren: Logan, Olivia, Oliver, Owen, Clara, and Harper.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 11 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Camp of the Cross Ministries.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Family will be greeting friends and family starting at 10:00 AM.
