Tom Hanson, 80, lifelong Minot resident, died on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. His family was at his side.
Thomas Keith Hanson was born on April 17, 1944 in Minot to Henry and Hannah (Johnson) Hanson. He was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1962. He attended Minot State College prior to enlisting in the ND Army National Guard where he served for six years.
Tom married Janet Schettler on September 2, 1967 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Donnybrook. They made their home in Minot where Tom was employed as a printer, pressman and creative services manager at the Minot Daily News for forty-two years. He retired in 2009 and then became a part-time employee at Lowe’s Garden Center for ten years.
Tom was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church – Minot and the Minot Curling Club. He especially enjoyed hunting, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Tom’s loving family includes his wife of 56 years: Janet; children: Jeanna (Mark) Gaarder, Jeremy (Allyson) Hanson and Jonathan (Julie) Hanson all of Minot and Jennifer (Franz) Charbonneaux of Chandler AZ; grandchildren: Melody Rose (Kalvin Brown), Jeanne Marie Hanson, Willow Sol & Linden Thomas Charbonneaux, and Chloe Marie Hanson; siblings: Helen Bonebrake and Martha “Marti” Misuraca both of Minot, Virginia Trousdale of Dallas TX, Fred Hanson and Rodney Hanson both of Bismarck and Richard Hanson of Show Low, AZ and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Margie Zietlow and Donald and Russell Hanson.
Visitation: Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10: 30 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church. A delayed stream of the service may be viewed starting on Tuesday August 6, 2024 by accessing https://www.mtmsales.net/thomas
Graveside Service: Tuesday in Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Little Flower Catholic Church or the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
