It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stan Vetter, 72, Minot and formerly of Garrison, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Stanley Dean Vetter was born on December 4, 1951 in Riverdale, ND to Arnold and Elaine (Boger) Vetter. He was raised and educated in Garrison, Brea and La Habra CA, and Minden, NE before the family returned to Garrison where Stan graduated from high school in 1969.  As a youngster, Stan participated in baseball, softball, football, and dodge ball, which was his favorite. Admittedly, he could sometimes be a little too competitive.

After high school graduation, Stan worked for his former art teacher, Roger Rieger, at a resort on Lake Ashtabula, ND. Then, he was employed by the Soo Line Railroad laying track. In January of 1970, Stan enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an Artillery Surveyor until January of 1973. He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany but had training missions throughout Germany. A highlight of that time was attending the Summer Olympics in Munich, 1972. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he transitioned into the ND Army National Guard from January of 1974 until January of 1979.

Stan married Paulette Krueger on September 2, 1973 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sawyer. They made their home in Minot where Stan was employed as a civil service employee, working on the Rivet Mile Program at the Minot Air Force Base. They are the proud parents of three children: Paige, Seth, and Nathan. Stan’s greatest joy was his grandchildren.

Stan had many talents and some of his greatest gifts were his ability to draft, design, and build. He was a Boy Scout Cubmaster for pack 428. Stan especially enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, and traveling with family in Charleston, South Carolina; San Antonio, Texas; and Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a collector of antique beer and soda pop cans and bottles and was a member of the NRA and NARFE.

Stan’s loving family includes his wife of 50 years: Paulette; children: Paige (Juan Rodriguez) Vetter, Seth (Ashley) Vetter and Nathan (Kimee) Vetter; grandchildren: Jesse, Dallas, Laiken, Ellie, Riley, and Emerson; siblings: Patsy Jacobson, Tracy (Nancy) Vetter and Bruce Vetter.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cecilia Bear.
