James Brandt, 81, Minot died on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in a Minot nursing home.

James Edwin Brandt was born on January 16, 1943 in Goodrich, ND to Edwin and Ruby (Pfaff) Brandt. He was raised and educated in Goodrich, Harvey and Minot. As a young adult, he was employed at Minot Auto Supply and at the Reggie Olson Wrecking Yard.

James married Marlene Berdahl on December 2, 1960, in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he was employed as a mechanic at Ted Schweigert Volkswagon, Alhood Motors, Blesener Olds and Don Bessette Motors. Also, he was employed by Main Electric on the power line from Coal Creek to Monticello, MN. Jim established Jim Brandt Auto Repair in 1983 and operated that business until a medical disability forced his retirement in 1995.  Also, Jim was a sponsor for a very successful slow-pitch softball team.

Jim enjoyed taking his family camping and fishing. This love for the outdoors was passed to their boys. Jim’s life revolved around his family and friends. His garage was a meeting place and the neighborhood hangout. He also enjoyed stock car racing and being a pit crew mechanic. His free time was spent driving around in the country looking for wildlife, sitting on his porch watching his birds that he fed daily or watching Cowboy shows. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Jim’s loving family includes his wife of 63 years: Marlene; sons: Donald, Michael (Heather), and Kelly (Renae) all of Minot; grandchildren: Jameson, Justin, Teralynn, Sheldon, Nicholas, Seth, Coleman, Jacob, Emma, and Ella; siblings: Elroy (Joyce) Brandt of Knoxville TN and B.J. Chamberlin of Las Vegas NV and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Sue Glasgow and brother: Ardwin Brandt.
