Rose Marie Bjelland

Rose Bjelland, 83, Minot, died on Friday, June 21, 2024, in a Minot hospital.

Rose Marie was born on March 20, 1941 in Minot to Eugene and Velma (Sloan) Murphy. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Washington for a short time, then to the Haynes, North Dakota area where she was raised and educated through the eighth grade. They then returned to Minot, where she graduated from Bishop Ryan High School in 1959.

Rose was once married to John Helseth.  They made their home in Minot and were the parents of Todd, Jay and Alecia.  She married Stanley Bjelland on October 3, 1975 in Baker, MT. They made their home in Minot before living in various places throughout the United States. In 1989, Rose and Stan moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they resided for fifteen years. Rose was employed at K-Mart as a receiving manager and then as a phone reservationist at Expedia. She retired in 2003 and they returned to Minot in 2004.

Rose was a member of St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower in Minot and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She volunteered at the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry and Trinity Homes, assisting with the monthly mass. Her hobbies and interests included reading, gardening, and traveling.

Rose’s loving family includes her husband of 48 years: Stanley; children: Todd Helseth, Minot, ND, Jay (Lisa) Helseth, Lakeville, MN, Alecia (Dean) VanWinkle, Menoken, ND, stepsons: Gary Bjelland, Minot, ND and Michael (Meghan) Fuller, Texas; siblings: Mary Ketelle, Olathe, KS, Tim Murphy, Bismarck, ND, Jim (Sandy) Murphy, Mike Murphy, Janet Murphy, all of Minot, ND; grandchildren: Todd, Jayson, Mariah, Shaylah, Aaron, Erica, Tyler, Courtney, Evan, Drew and Liam; great grandchildren: Huxley, Rennan, Jonah, Braden, Carson, Ian, Jordan and Lucas; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Gene, Jack, Dennis, and Tommy; sister: Pat and infant sister: Eleanor.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower, Minot. 
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday, June 26th at 7:30 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday, June 26th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry.
