Charles ‘Chuck’ Johns, 85, of Bismarck, passed away June 18th, 2024, at his home.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday July 12th, 2024, at St. George’s Episcopal Memorial Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Zanne Ness officiating. The burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. The visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Chuck was born May 1, 1939, in Dawson North Dakota to Marcus and Mildred (Hoover) Johns. He was raised in Jamestown ND along with his sister Arlis. As a child he spent his days hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors.
After graduation from Jamestown High School, Chuck joined the Navy. Following his years of service, he moved to Minneapolis where he attended school. It was there that he met the love of his life, Alice Thompson. They met and were married in 3 months’ time and were happily devoted to each other until her passing in 2013. After they were married, he joined the armed forces again, this time enlisting in the Air Force where he had a long career and retired in 1979. Together they had three children, Bradley, Lisa, and Krista. They moved around quite a bit to various locations around the country until they were transferred to Grand Forks Air Force base where they stayed until his retirement. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and attending sporting events with his family. After retirement from the service, he and his family moved to Fargo where he worked for the FAA and then transferred to Bismarck in 1981 where he finally retired in 1999. After retirement he enjoyed spending time in Minnesota fishing, spending time with his grandkids, Minnesota Twins, fly tying, music and shooting at the range. He belonged to the Bismarck Elks, The American Legion, The Kem Shriners and other organizations.
Chuck is survived by his children, Brad (Gay) Johns and Krista (Andrew) Reynolds; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Mildred; his wife, Alice; his daughter, Lisa Beckley; and his sister, Arlis Anderson (MT).
