Vernon D. Hahn, 67, Bismarck, passed away June 14, 2024 at Sanford Health.  Family will be receiving guests at the Bismarck Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 18 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Fishing was Vern’s greatest passion.  Walleye, Northerns, Perch, Trout and Carp-it didn’t matter.  He rarely turned down an opportunity to go.  It was the “fight” of bringing them in, that brought him such joy!  “Fish on” was his favorite saying.

Numerous weekends of camping, Josephine, Helen, Brush Lake, Fish Creek but the most frequented was Lake Tschida.  Ending those days with a beer and a brat around the campfire was Vern’s idea of a perfect day!

Hunting was his second passion.  He made it to Canada for a bear hunt.  In Wyoming he helped hunt for elk but a snowstorm dumped eight inches overnight making it an unsuccessful adventure.  He loved hunting in the Badlands, always waiting for “just the right buck” to come into view.  As evidence by his man cave/trophy room.  He was very successful harvesting white tail deer too.  Our freezer was always full-fish, turkey, pheasant and venison.

Family was important to Vern.  He looked forward to “movie nights” with his brothers.  Vampires, Zombies, Mad Max, X-men and war movies were his top picks.  He enjoyed playing with his great niece and nephews.  He loved taking them fishing at the Game and Fish pond.

In November 2019, a tiny grey and black kitten was found in the garage. She adopted Vern as her “human”.  Naming her Winter, she became his shadow.  He leash trained her, even taking her fishing too.  Maybe she is a dog in disguise!

Born in Bismarck to Orville and Eunice (Moser) Hahn on December 2, 1956, Vern attended Bismarck High School.  He worked at Herbergers Department Store until he retired at the age of 50-Lucky Man!

On October 2, 1980 Vern married Corliss Pachl.

He is survived by his wife, Corliss; brother, Dan (Patty) Hahn and their children Lisa Hahn Dirk and Ryan (Lindsey) Hahn; brother, Byron (Brenda) Hahn; numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews and of course his beloved cat, Winter!

Vern was preceded in death by both parents, Orville and Eunice Hahn; father-in-law, Edward Pachl; sister-in-law, Corina (Pachl) Zalesky.
