Ordean Olson

Ordean Lavern Olson, 74, formerly of Minot, ND died Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at his Phoenix Arizona home surrounded by his family.

Ordean was born November 3, 1949, in Minot, the son of Vern and Mae Olson. He was baptized, confirmed and married at First Lutheran Church in Plaza. Ordean graduated from Plaza High School.  

Ordean attended college at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and received his Electrical degree. He worked at Holmes Electric in Minot, ND.

Ordean married Beverly Kay Erickson on December 29, 1973, in Plaza. Ordean and Beverly lived on a farm in South Prairie where they raised their three children: Nathan, Kimberly, and Karla. Ordean was so proud of his three kids.

He was a member of Union IBEW 714 and member of First Lutheran Church in Plaza, St Mark’s Lutheran Church and Bread of Life in Minot.  He enjoyed fishing at Van Hook in the Summer and bird and deer hunting near Squaw Gap in the Fall.  He enjoyed having breakfast with Bev out on the backyard patio. He was an avid pet lover of Springer Spaniels and Poodles. He enjoyed nature photography and sharing this hobby with his daughter, Kimberly. He enjoyed going to the Tuesday Night Movies with Nathan and Karla. Ordean worked for Lockhead Martin, Holmes/Main Electric. In 2004, he and Beverly moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for several different electrical companies until he retired as a Journeyman in 2015.

Ordean was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2014.  He completed chemotherapy and stem cell transplant in 2015. In 2015; Ordean became a grandpa to Corban Johnson.  He enjoyed attending Corban’s many sporting activities.

Ordean is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly; son, Nathan LaDean (Elizabeth); daughters, Kimberly Ann Johnson (Jared) and Karla Kay Olson; grandchild; Corban Johnson; sisters, Loretta Coad, Betty Olson (Dean), Mary Severance (Brian); brother Brian Olson (Shari); brother-in-law, Robert Erickson (Susan); sister-in-law, Pam Olson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Vern Olson; mother, Mae Mueller; stepfather, Don Mueller; brother, Glen Olson; in-laws, Clarence and Bertina Erickson and Matthew Coad; niece, Brittany Olson; as well as several aunts and uncles.

His family will miss his willingness and ability to fix and repair anything at any time. They will miss his banter, humor, and quirky personality.

The Olson family invites all who knew Ordean or who wish to offer their condolences in person to join them in celebrating his life on June 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Plaza, ND.

Interment: Spring Valley Cemetery, rural Plaza

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ordean’s honor to the Pheasants of the Future – Berthold.
