Orlyn Lovelien, 92, Minot, formerly of Turtle Lake, was reunited with his wife, Marjorie, in His heavenly home, Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Orlyn Odell was born February 12, 1932 in Whitehall, Wisconsin the son of Adolph and Sylvia “Katherine” (Springmeyer) Lovelien. He was raised and educated in Turtle Lake, ND and assisted with the family farm. Orlyn moved to Minot, where he worked at a feed elevator store. On September 6, 1957 he enlisted in the US Army Reserves where he honorably served until March 5, 1958.

Following his discharge he worked in construction, during this time he met the love of his life, Marjorie. Who would have thought leaving his saw at her house while remodeling would create such a spark. They were united in marriage on December 2, 1977 in Minot where they made their home. He was employed as a custodian at Minot Public Schools, primarily for Ramstad and Jim Hill middle schools until his retirement.

Orlyn was a storyteller and loved sharing with anyone who would listen. He was the most patient and kind soul, particularly with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. There wasn’t much he wouldn’t do, whether it was prom dress shopping with the girls, outings for ice cream and treats or sharing the love of his favorite activities. He put his heart and soul into everything he did.

In his spare time, you could often find Orlyn playing bingo, golfing, cross country skiing, traveling, working on carpentry projects or watching his favorite football and baseball teams: the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who shared his life. Christmas definitely won’t be the same without the “candy growing” tree and all the deliveries to the “special mailbox,” no matter what time of year. Our memories will live on forever.

Orlyn was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot and was an advocate for his faith and church.

Orlyn’s loving family includes his stepdaughters Darlene Oja and Charlene Fox, both of Minot; grandchildren Jessica (Michael) Krout, Minot, Hope (Jeremiah) Trana, Granville, ND, Erica McFarland, Towner, ND and Cristin Fox, Bossier City, LA; great-grandchildren Annabelle Collins, Samantha and Adeline Trana and Christopher and Kinsley McFarland; sister Delores Fiedler, Alabama; sister-in-law Marsha Bauley, Valley City, ND; brother-in-law Stan Przybycien, Williston, ND; brother-in-law Robert (Marilyn) Lill, Cathay, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.
