Duane Rodger Hawk, the son of Dean and Helen Hawk, was born in Rugby, N.D. on June 13, 1944, and died, at the age of 79 on Monday, May 5, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, N. D.  Internment was held on Thursday, May 9, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, N.D. In lieu of flowers, we ask memorials to be sent to Disabled Veterans Organizations.

Duane was raised on the family farm east of Wolford. He attended school and graduated from Wolford Public School. He attended Wahpeton School of Science. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 with a tour of duty including one year in Viet Nam. After returning home, he worked for Western Electric in Houston, Texas. He returned to the family farm in 1976.

He married Mary Nguyen in 2012 and resided on the farm until 2020 when he moved to Lincoln, N.D.  He was active in the community belonging to several boards including Hurricane Lake Board, Wolford Wildlife, Devils Lake Basin Board, Pierce County Soil District, Wolford Cemetery board, and Pierce County Water Resource Board.

Duane’s interests were extensive. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, airplanes, and he took several trips to Viet Nam and compiled several photo albums that he loved sharing.

Duane leaves behind his wife Mary of 12 years, sisters Donnis Sanborn, Port Orchard, Washington, Coline (Randy) Mattson, Rugby, several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Dawn, friend and longtime companion Dorcas Seil.
