Craig Gust, 61, Minot died on Friday, April 5, 2024, in a Minot hospital from a heart attack with his loving wife and family at his side.

Craig Charles Gust was born on August 24, 1962 in Minot, ND to Alfred and Luella (Brandt) Gust.  He was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1980.  As a young adult Craig was employed at Granite Springs Water Company, Mackley Construction and laid railroad tracks for local grain elevators.  For the past 40 years, Craig was employed by Trinity Health in Minot as a maintenance engineer.

Craig married Wendy Abelseth on August 9, 1996 at First Lutheran Church in Minot.  They made their forever home in Minot.

As a young boy, Craig’s mother Luella and father Al took the family on wonderful vacations, filled with love, to Pine Beach Resort in MN.  Craig rode many miles on his green stingray bike before graduating to a green Kawasaki motorcycle.  Craig enjoyed playing baseball as a young boy and his sister, Nancy, remembers having to be his “catcher” when he practiced his pitching.

Craig was a member of the Star City Golf Course in Velva where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his brother Randy, dad Al and later in life his father-in-law Fred.  As a sports fan, Craig enjoyed watching NDSU football and Minnesota Twins baseball games on television. Craig took great pride in maintaining a meticulous lawn and loved helping Wendy care for the beautiful flowers that landscaped their yard which became an oasis for wildlife. Craig and Wendy enjoyed creating a safe space for many birds and wildlife, except for the skunk and her twelve babies, in their meadow that bleeds into the horizon.  Around the perimeter of the garden are two large bird houses for the Purple Martins that return every year in mid April, and it was always Craig’s job to ready the houses for the birds when they arrived.

Independence Day was Craig’s favorite holiday.  Extra change was saved all year long to purchase fireworks that lit up the sky.  Craig loved putting on a great show for all of his family, friends and neighbors.  Craig had a soft spot in his heart for their cat and best friend Copper.  He was an excellent care-giver for the cat administering the required daily shots for his buddy.

Craig is survived by his wife of 28 years: Wendy; parents: Alfred and Luella Gust; siblings: Nancy (James) Davis and Randy Gust, all of Minot; father-in-law: Fred Abelseth, Minot; sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Marilyn (Ralph Alexander Poirier) Northagen, Candy Abelseth, Nancy (James) Sample, all of Minot; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and their cat, Copper.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey; mother-in-law: Betty Abelseth; and sister-in-law: Joan Gust.
