Ronald Bloom

Ronald Bloom, 81, of Ryder, passed away on March 25, 2024.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on April 3, 2024, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, ND. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND at 2:00 PM.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, ND, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM.

Ronald Vern Bloom was born on May 28, 1942, to Vern and Alice (Price) Bloom in Garrison, ND. He was born the oldest grandchild on the Price side. Ron grew up on the family farm south of Ryder, ND.  He attended and graduated school from Ryder High School in 1960. Following high school Ron stayed home to help his dad farm and milk cows. He milked cows for 40 years. Once his parents retired Ron took over the family farm.

In 1974, Ron met Rita, while she was a teacher at St. Nicholas in Garrison. On August 1, 1975, Ron and Rita were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND. After being married for 10 months on May 30, they welcomed their first child together Terry Ronald Bloom. Two years later they welcomed their last child Roxann Marie Bloom. Together they raised their family on Ron’s family farm, where Ron continued to milk cows until Roxann graduated from high school.

Ron enjoyed spending his time playing softball, bowling, and watching the Twins and Vikings play. He especially loved dancing with the love of his life Rita Bloom. Spending time with his family was important to Ron, he adored spending time with his grandson Shawn Kastrow. He even enjoyed spoiling his grand fur babies, Scooby, Shadow, Sasha, Hunter, Bruno, Checkers, Lucifer, and the late Broady and Fluffy.

Ron was a proud member of many organizations. He was the Vice-President of McLean County Farmers Union, President of the Blue Hill Farmers Union. Ron was on the Board of McLean Electric for 12 years. President of the Farmers Union Oil Company in Ryder, a member of the Garrison Lamplighters, a board member of the West McLean Insurance, and President of the McLean County Senior Citizens. Ron was also a member of the Knight of Columbus Fourth Degree.

Ron is survived by his son, Terry (Amanda) Bloom, Garrison; daughter, Roxann Bloom, Ryder; grandson, Shawn Kastrow, Garrison; in-laws, Shirley (Gene) Bloom, Cheney, WA; Bob (Shirley) Mischel, Tum Water; Betty (Dennis) Schaner, Mandan; Betty (Larry) Schaner, Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Rita Bloom; parents, Vern and Alice; brother, Gene Bloom; brothers-in-law, Larry and Dennis Schaner; sister-in-law, Gretchen Mischel; and numerous aunts and uncles.
