Barney Oliver Strand, Jr. 91, Regan, passed away after a brief illness. He was surrounded by the caring hands and loving hearts of his family members at the time of his death.  Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunne Lutheran Church with Rev. Dan Paulson officiating.  Burial will be held at the Regan Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was the son of Barney Oliver and Charlotte (Wilmont) Strand, Sr. Barney was born on September 6, 1932, and lived on the family farm until his death.

A 1950 graduate of Regan High, he married Rose Mary Roubal of Regan on June 10, 1954. Barney and Rose were blessed with two children, Richard, and Sindy (Schmitz).

Barney served for over 25 years on the Burleigh County Soil Conservation District Board in addition to other area committees and boards. He was also active in the Sunne Lutheran Church of Wilton, ND.

He was known for his piano and accordion musical ability and played with a variety of bands providing music for weddings and special celebrations.  Barney loved softball and played up to the age of 72 years old.

Barney is survived by one brother Lee (Corky) Strand and daughter Michele, one foster brother John (Jean) Hruby and two sons Jeff and Jay; two children, Richard (Deborah) Strand, Sindy Schmitz (Burt); four grandchildren, Lindsey Novak (Jerame), Kirk (Danielle) Strand, Cordell (Abby) Schmitz, Kayla Wiest (Austin); ten great-grandchildren, Grant, Reese and Lydia Novak; Ella and Alex Strand; Colter, Emory  and Lainey Schmitz, McCoy and Claire Wiest and niece Sherry (Roubal) Leno and nephews Wes and Terry Roubal.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents, Barney O and Charlotte Strand, Sr. and his wife Rose Mary of 64 years.
