Donald Iglehart, 92, of Garrison, passed away on January 20, 2024, in Garrison, ND.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, ND. A rosary will be held at 9:30 AM on the day of the service.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home, in Garrison, ND.
Donald was born on November 30, 1931, to Wilbert “Bill” and Eleanor M. (Retterath) Iglehart in Garrison, ND. He attended grade school at Hackett Township #1 in Emmet, ND, high school at Garrison High School, Class of 1950. He attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, for an agricultural program, prior to him moving home to Emmet to farm and dairy farm with his parents.
Donald married Donna Jean Petz from Ryder, ND, on October 13, 1953. They lived on the family farm until they moved to Ralph Ward’s Farm in 1956. Together they ran a dairy and farmed until 1963, then ranched and farmed until 1978, and farmed until retirement in 1996. He and Donna raised five children.
Over the years Donald was a supervisor for the Soil Conservation for West McLean County for 25 years (1968-1993), and a supervisor for McLean McHenry Mutual Insurance Company for 45 years (1959-2004). He was also involved in the American Breeders Association; he was ABS certified. Donald was a pioneer of no till farming, a 4-H leader, and a school board member for nine years at Garrison High School.
Donald enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards, bowling, making jerky, and having fish frys. He also loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports.
Donald will be greatly missed by his wife of 70 years, Donna Jean (Petz) Iglehart; four children, Debbie Starleaf, Donovan (Mary), Douglas, DeeAnn Lowry; sister, Mary Jo (Ric) Blanchard; sister-in-law, Sandy Iglehart; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Anderson (Jim Shober), Zachary Starleaf, Matthew Iglehart, Callie Iglehart, Travis (Mindy) Iglehart, Andrew (Cindy) Iglehart, Tawnya Iglehart (Joel Porter), Allen Iglehart (Mckenna Mai), Colton Lowry (Tori Heckart), Clayton Lowry (Laenna Klein);11 great-grandchildren, Samantha and Emily Anderson, Nashton and Dawson Wimer, Braxton, Treyson, and Addyson Iglehart, Brynn, Shaelynn, and Brookstyn Iglehart, and a baby on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eleanor Iglehart; son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, Dirck, Sherry (Sayler), and Heather Iglehart; daughter-in-law, Linda (Kastner) Iglehart; Iglehart twin sons; great-granddaughter, Avyn Iglehart; brothers, Robert “Bum” (Gail) Iglehart, Wilbert “Billy” Iglehart; sister, Rozann Ford.
