Melvin Score, 83, Minot and formerly of Carpio died on Friday, December 29, 2023 in a Minot nursing home.

Melvin Arthur Score was born on September 4, 1940, in Minot, ND to John and Alta (Einerson) Score. He was raised and educated in Carpio and graduated from Carpio High School in 1958. Mel enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in October of 1958 and served during the Berlin Crisis until his honorable discharge in June of 1962. As a young he was employed at National Tea Grocery Store and Novak Cleaners and farmed in the Carpio area for a time.

Melvin married Ardella Kassner on July 14, 1961 at Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he was employed at Farmers Union Oil/Cenex Gas Station and served as the Manager of the Farmer’s Union Oil Company/Ace Hardware Store for many years. He retired in 2006 and continued to reside in Minot.

Mel was a member of Christ Lutheran Church – Minot and the Moose Lodge. He especially enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.

Mel’s loving family includes his wife of 62 years: Ardella; son: Brad Score of Minot; grandchildren: Emily and Erik; sister: JoAnn (Lowell) Oamek of Meridian ID; niece: Brenda Maupin; nephew: Mark Oamek; sister-in-law: Arlene Buechler and several cousins.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law: Ruben Buechler and sister-in-law: Shirley Brevig.

Celebration of the Life of Melvin Score:  Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church – Minot.

Interment will be in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery – rural Carpio.

Visitation:  Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church.
