Joan Stevick, 82, Minot, died Sunday, December 3, 2023, in a Minot hospital.

Joan was born June 13, 1941 in Minot, North Dakota, to Raymond and Mildred (Brey) Peterson. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1959. She continued her education at Minot State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education. 

Joan married Arlo Stevick on August 19, 1961 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot, and they were blessed with a daughter, Suzanne. Arlo’s career as an educator and administrator took the family to Tolley, Williston, Klamath Falls, OR, Devils Lake, and Jamestown. Joan taught English while the family lived in Klamath Falls. She was proud to assist locals and prisoners earn their GED in Jamestown; while in Minot she worked at the Minot Public Library. Arlo died November 5, 2022.

Joan was a caring host and frequently invited family and friends for coffee and conversation at her home. She was known for her guestbook that her visitors signed and left messages in. Her other hobbies included studying the Bible and the various translations, watching old movies and the news. She enjoyed politics and admired the Queen and the Royal Family. Most important to Joan was her family. She attended all of Suzanne’s orchestra and band concerts, and enjoyed many family trips that led them to many western US historic sites and trails.

She is survived by: her daughter, Suzanne; sister, Merle Slade, both of Minot; nephews and niece, Brent (Alexis) Slade, Jay (Becca) Slade, and Amy (Chris) Ralph; great nephews and nieces, Michael, Skylar, and Gabe Slade, Rachel and Ryan Ralph, and Dagan Slade. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years, and sister, Karen West. 

A private family service will be held in the Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel. 
Interment: Rolling Green Cemetery, rural Des Lacs
Public Visitation: At her request, there will not be a viewing, however friends may sign the memorial register on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
