Isabel Groninger (Narum), 91, lifelong Douglas, ND, area resident passed away peacefully with her family by her side from dementia progression on December 8, 2023, one month short of her 92nd birthday.

Isabel Marlyn Narum was born on January 12, 1932, on a farm in Rosemont Twp., south of Douglas to Nels Sr. and Hilda Narum (Kuntz). Isabel graduated from Douglas H.S. in 1949 and then from Minot Teachers College with an associate teaching degree.

Isabel lived in the Douglas area all of her life except for four years when teaching 3rd grade in Parshall, ND, and four years when first married living in the valley just west of Minot, ND. In 2019 Isabel moved into an assisted living apartment in Velva, ND, and in 2021 she moved into Cookies Cottage, a memory care home in Minot, ND, where she resided until her passing.

Isabel married Herbert (Gene) Groninger on June 16, 1956.  In 1961, the two of them moved to start a farming/ranching operation in Spring Lake Twp., north of Douglas. They raised small grains and cattle.  They also raised five loving children. Isabel was the Sunday School superintendent at Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas, for 30 years.

Surviving Family:  Children:  Delwyn Groninger, Minot, ND; Dwayne (Jolene) Groninger, Douglas; Donn (Karie) Groninger, Nashville, GA; Dana (Mark) Malzer, Sawyer, ND; and Darren (Kim) Groninger, Douglas.  Thirteen grandchildren:  Christine (Cody) Sauter, Collin and Cameron Malzer; Lacey (Luke) Wilcox, Michaela (Brad) Haugen; Reid (Mandi) Groninger; Jarette (Tom) Sabol, Janae (Seth) Gravesen, Jordan and Jayden Groninger; Wyatt Groninger; Joshua and Grace Groninger.  Ten great-grandchildren:  Corbin, Colten and Caylee Sauter; Liam and Sadie Jo Wilcox; Gemma and Brody Sabol; Brandt and Blaire Gravesen.  Brother Gailen (Rita) Narum.  Sister-in-laws Phyllis Narum and Marion Narum.  Nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-grandchild, Eli Wilcox; siblings Norman, Melvin, Gladys Bakko, Harold, Hilbert, Florence O’Shea, Hazel O’Shea and Nels, Jr.  Daughter-in-law Karen Groninger. Sister-in-laws Grace, Thelma and Edna.  Brother-in-laws Wilfred Bakko, Robert O’Shea and John O’Shea.

Visitation at Thomas Funeral Home, Minot, ND, on Fri., Dec. 15th, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with memory sharing time from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Interment:  Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Douglas, ND, following a lunch and fellowship after the service.
Family requests memorials be made to the church their mother was dedicated to her entire life: Trinity Lutheran Church of Douglas.
