Merrie Borud, 66, Minot, died Saturday, November 25, 2023, in her home.
Merrie was born May 2, 1957, in Grafton, ND to Ordean and Donna (Matcha) Momerak. She was raised and went to school in Grafton then attended school in Minot starting in 1962. She then would go on to attend Minot State Teacher’s College, earning her bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a minor in Special Education.
Merrie was once married to Rick Marquardt. They made their home in Minot, ND.
Merrie worked at the Minot Vocational Workshop, now KALIX, for many years. She was in service to others her entire life, working her later years as activities director at the Parker Center and Wellington, now Minot Lodge Senior Living. She retired in 2021.
Merrie was united in marriage to her longtime companion Brad Borud on March 12, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. Brad passed away in August of 2014.
Merrie enjoyed spending her time outside gardening, tending to the vegetables she would prepare for canning after the harvest. She also cooked many delicious meals for family and friends. Everyone looked forward to receiving her homemade apple butter, made fresh every year. When the growing season was over Merrie could be found crocheting, knitting, or attending craft shows with her mom. A lot of time was also spent with her kitty companion, Nala.
Merrie will be remembered for loving her children and grandchildren, her generosity, compassion, and genuine love of helping others live their best lives. She really enjoyed teaching yoga at the Parker and was sure to include everyone even if they were not very flexible.
Merrie is survived by her children, Aaron (Melissa) Marquardt, Bismarck, Rebecca (LeMan) Hoffmann, Bismarck, and Rachel (Cody) Edwards, Kenmare; grandchildren Dean Marquardt and Trey, Gracelynn and Paige Edwards; mother, Donna Momerak, Minot, ND; step children Nicole Borud, Derek (Kathryn) Borud and Wyatt (Erin) Werner; step-grandchildren Elyse Borud, Clayton Borud, Nolan Borud, Lorelai Hebert, Stryker Werner and Coraline Werner; siblings Marlene (Ken) Aitchison, Sheridan, WY, Mark (Lenette) Momerak, Bismarck, Susan (Stan) Haman, Kenai, AK, Tim (Judy) Momerak, Douglas, WY, Phil (Leann) Momerak, Minot and Ken (Gail) Momerak, Minot; aunts and uncles Leonard and Adele and Bernice and Ed along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Merrie was preceded in death by her father Ordean, husband Bradley Borud, a cousin, and maternal grandparents George and Stella Matcha.

Interment: Rolling Green Cemetery, Des Lacs.
Visitation: Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Minot or Zion Lutheran Community Outreach.
